More information about Moonstone
Moonstone has been used as an adornment and powerful talisman since ancient civilizations. The Romans and Hindus believed it was formed from moonbeams. Both the Romans and the Greeks associated moonstone with their lunar deities. The ancient Greeks called moonstone Aphroselene in honor of the goddesses Aphrodite and Selene, while the Romans claimed the goddess Diana could be seen in every moonstone. Some ancient Asians believed the gem was a solid ray of moonlight filled with good spirits, and moonstones in India were revered as a symbol of the third eye. Many other cultures also associate this gem with moonlight.
Florida adopted moonstone as its official state gemstone in 1970 to commemorate the Apollo 11 moon landing and other spaceflights that launched from Florida.
The desire for Moonstone is borderless, crossing all over Europe, Asia, and into the Americas. By the Medieval period, Europeans had adopted moonstones into their mystical arts and gazed into them to invoke prophetic dreams.
It was widely believed Moonstone was connected to love and conventional femininity. In fact, there was a belief that two people could fall passionately in love if they gazed upon one another while wearing a moonstone under a full moon.
